My Way of Changing the World Doing My Part
Thank you for visiting my Lift One Project page.
My husband and I went through many years of financial hard times. In 2005 we suddenly had a great financial year, and an empty nest. Our six kids and six grandkids all live far away. We are a close family who doesn't see each other often enough.
In thanksgiving for our financial boom, in honor of kids, grandkids, and having been parents, I chose to sponsor a child through an organization recommended by Oprah Winfrey. I had always been drawn to India, and was instantly drawn to Anjushree's online picture. We exchanged some letters and pictures.
We never imagined that in 2008 we'd have reason to travel to India for business. I was afraid to travel there, and was only willing to go if we went to visit Anjushree.
Our first week in India we saw many rough circumstances. My heart sank, expecting to see Anjushree suffering the same circumstances when we'd be able to see her our third week in India.
Imagine my surprise, delight, and growing happiness, to recognize her face immediately waiting for us on her front yard, to see how well taken care of she is. She is friendly, outgoing, and talented. Her parents and extended family are loving and caring with each other.
My husband didn't expect to be so emotionally moved when meeting her. Then the engineer in him kept observing and remarking about the incredible care being done by Children International. He was so impressed with the organization's choice of gifts given to the family that our special ocassion donations made possible. He very much respected how useful and pertinent the gifts were to this family.
We learned that Anjushree had recently spent 15 days in the hospital with Typhoid. We, as parents, were so grateful that she was taken care of and back home with her parents.
We were amazed by the seamless and nearly invisible effort on the part of the organization to make our trip a success.
We were able to visit Anjushree's home, visit her school, and have dinner with all her extended family.
I hope one day to take kids and grandkids to meet her and her family.
There are 20,000 kids in her surrounding area, and understandably only about 35 sponsors a year visit.
I'm here to tell you I've seen it in person. Our small monthly donation is making a big difference.
It makes a difference not only in Anjushree's life, in her family's life, but also by enriching our own lives.
I blogged about our visit...

One to One Sponsorship Solution
With this webpage I hope to accomplish big things, life-changing things.
I want to introduce you to an organization and a solution that addresses a cause that is very important to me: child poverty.
Children International has been around since 1936, and now assists over 300,000 children in 11 countries. They connect very poor children to caring sponsors. I am proud to be a sponsor myself and I’m asking you to learn more about sponsorship and hopefully become a sponsor to a child in need.
My sponsored child receives free health care and medicine when they get sick, has access to a dentist and receives benefits like the clothing, shoes and supplies necessary to go to school. Because of sponsorship, children have a place to turn to and real hope for the future. The amazing Children International staff and volunteers in my sponsored child’s community are committed to turning disadvantaged children into healthy, educated, self-reliant adults.
The United Nations estimates that over three billion people live on less than two dollars a day! Poverty is humiliating and robs individuals of power and options. Without significant help, there’s simply no way to break the cycle of poverty -- sponsorship gives children resources lifting the obstacles that stand in the way.
One to one sponsorship through Children International breaks it down to that critical individual level, a level where you can see results and bear witness to amazing change.
Be sure to watch the video on the right-hand side of the screen and read “The Benefits of Sponsorship” to learn more about this terrific organization.
Children International is now also in the United States. If that interests you, please contact them.

Sponsorship Releases Potential
|
Now is the Time
I trust Children International to use my money wisely. In fact, eight out of every ten dollars raised goes programs and services that directly help children. $22 per month (approximately 73 cents a day) can make a huge difference in a poor child’s life.
Giving a poor child the tools necessary to lift themselves out of poverty is a great gift and you have the power to make it happen. Push the “Lift One” button and begin searching for your sponsored child. It is truly an amazing and satisfying journey.
Please support this movement and become a sponsor today!
